so there i was on i 95 minding my business in the left lane traveling at about 65mph when i look in my rear view mirror and see off in the distance a lexus weaving through traffic doing at least 90mph. I think nothing of it and pay attention to make sure he doesn't hit my car just in case. When all of a sudden he hits the car behind me! Holy crap! the car nearly is pushed into the divider and the lexus immediately hits the brakes and limps off to the right. The car behind me that got crashed into pulls off to the right as well. And i think nothing more of it, looks like everyone is safe.

All of a sudden i see the black lexus shoot on by again swerving through traffic this time in excess of 100mph. I think for a second, do i just let this happen. Then i say no fuck this...thats not right...that bastard is going down, i downshift to third hear the turbo spool up and blast off afterwards i catch up and luckily he was getting off the exit to 476 just like me, so i didnt have to lengthen my trip. Then a wall of traffic...he has to slow down, he tries to get off on the shoulder but theres no room he has to stay on the road. i spot the tag number, say it back to myself three times memorize it and call the staties.

ring ring and the trooper gets on asking me whats going on and i describe to him what i saw and the tag number of the guy who did it. I describe the damage i saw on his car and thats he's swerving all around. He lets me know that they're aware of the accident and that i will be contacted by the investigating officer. I ask if i should continue following him, since he's exiting the highway...and they say no, thanks you've given us enough to grab him.

HAHAHA i got the bastard!

so i've been thinking of a new car anyway. The audi just isn't my style, wrong color, wrong transmission, not enough power...etc etc. My thought was to get a 2006 or 2007 Subaru WRX, nothing crazy, but a little faster, a manual an AWD, a good car, and i would be satisfied with it, but i doubt i'd love it. Spring is coming and if i still had the 8 this weekend would be the weekend when i put the summer wheels back on and readjust the suspension for that little bit of snap oversteer that i love and the hard settings that make the car like glue on the road. Alas my 8 is dead, but i have a garage full of parts and modifications for her that i had thought of selling. Now there is a thought that enters the liminal to not just get something new and boring, but to go ahead and get back behind the wheel of one that i love. The time is right, my money is right (at least for a used one...and thats what i'd want). I miss working on one, i miss driving one, i want it back. Is this too crazy? I feel like i need an 8 back in my life.

computer problems

since i got one request to post more often, and seeing as how i'm quite vain i shall. But this post is a post brought on by annoyance and frustration.

A few weeks ago i noticed that my computer will sometimes be frozen in the morning and had to be rebooted, i thought m'eh whatever. I go on a trip to massachusetts, and leave my computer off during the trip figuring its got issues why leave it on. Come back start it up and as soon as i do anything memory intensive the screen freezes. Turn off. Wait. Restart. Memory crazy thing and freeze. So i decided to try and check the memory and see if its faulty using memtest. I get some errors and the test freezes. So i'm thinking great its a memory problem. I'll try out the sticks one at a time and see which one is broken. One of them i was able to get to windows on, but the problem persisted. The other one would freeze the system at the BIOS screen. Replace the good one with the bad one and same problem. (Micro center was closed at this time so i couldnt just buy new memory)

This is frustrating so i read up online on these things and somewhere i read that resetting the CMOS may help with things. I reset the CMOS, get the time and date error in BIOS and then windows loads up fine and dandy. Except that it thinks its 2001 which causes issues with a number of programs and the computer goes back to freezing. ARGH! So i let it sit overnight, go to work yesterday and on my way home pick up some memory. 4GB DDR2 800MHz $25 after mail in rebate...fantastically cheap. Awesome. Go home stick the two sticks in. Magically the computer loads up into windows, hooray! Both old sticks had problems. I was very excited.... ...but unfortunately this is not the end of my story.

I decide to go into the BIOS and see if i can get the date and time set correctly, and i go in and see that the date and time are in fact correct. I think...wonderful now things should work. So i exit out of BIOS and go to load windows and BAM! theres a corrupt file in my windows32/something something. Something about a kernel. Its like shooting down the red baron, tragic all around. I should of paid attention to the fact that my antivirus was screaming bloody murder because its virus definitions are 8 years in the future. It likely caused some problems frantically trying to fix things.

So i get myself a copy of XP from courtney (thanks for that), and i try to get it to correct things. At first i forgot to set the CD to boot ahead of the HD so i went into windows. I got a caution sign about corrupted files and got a BSOD with a 'BAD_POOL_CALLER' whatever the hell that means. So i sigh, hit reset and wait for the BIOS screen to offer me a setup option, it does i hit delete and i wait... and i wait... and i wait... nothing is happenning. Every time i goto setup in my bios it freezes.

I remember that when i reset the CMOS things seemed to be fine, so i did that again...it was already reset once, why not try again. So I do and i'm able to get into the bios setup and i set up the CD to read ahead of the HD and hooray windows setup starts. It starts loading itself up and then bam freezes. FUCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!! so i start again from the beginning of this paragraph and instead go to windows safe mode. I'm in...i open the windows CD and begin an installation, churn churn churn...BSOD! Go to restart and i'm hung up in the bios loading screen again. I start this paragraph over onve more time, this time managing to get into windows, deleting the culprit of the kernel error (in case it causes it again), the culprit being my antivirus software that shot all kinds of errors and warnings at me. I go to start windows installation, and BSOD...this time it restarted so i have no idea what the BSOD was.

Im frustrated and I don't know what to do...the only thing i can think of is to buy a new hard drive, take out my old one for now and start fresh. Recover my files later. But what if my motherboard is f'ed from all this nonsense (cause crashes and failures to load during the BIOS don't sound promising). Then again if this is all a HDD problem a new one will solve things and i may be able to recover my old data somehow.

my warranty on my car has officially given out. Its kinda the feeling of you're in a plane your climbing climbing climbing and then poof the engine cuts out and its quiet...nothing is specifically wrong at the moment but any minute now you may not be able to recover the plane and bam you'll have problems. That analogy made more sense in my head...sorry. Either way right now im waiting with bated breath for something catastrophic to happen. Luckily if its my engine (they recently upped the engine core warranty) im still covered. Likely this is gonna mean more mechanical skill learning for me since i'll be inclined to do it myself.
Haven't posted in a while and sux thats its bad news like this. At a soccer scrimmage today i managed to nearly break my ankle. Spent the rest of the evening with my dad in the ER of presbyterian hospital at UPenn. Took a few hours but it would have taken longer if it hadn't been for him, thanks dad. So they gave me some percocet and the horrifying pain eventually went away and i became a giddy talkative lad hehe, but apprehensive since im assuming the worst especially after how swollen my ankle was. The podiatrist comes back and tells me that she found no fractures (hooray!) and that i wont need a hard cast. I'll be wearing a soft cast for a week and on crutches for hopefully no more than 2 weeks. Then the slow recovery and hopefully ability to play again by the end of the season. But i'm still flying on the painfree ness of the percocet so im gonna go to sleep.

p.s. i oughta update this thing more often, things do happen in my life still after all.

my lease is up in april on my car and i love it too much to let it go so i bought it today. They made me an excellent offer on financing (6.65% which is almost a whole percentage point below the average for used cars) and I also got sassy with them. I told them its in our mutual interest to sell me the car for less that the residual value since the price they'll get at auction is well below that value and they'll have to write off the ifference. I offered to help them out with the write off by offering $1500 less than residual, they came back with $800 so i took it...not bad for something that is contratually non-negotiable (i was seriously expecting nothing). I was likely at lease end to be 9,000 miles over mileage which would of cost me $1,530 along with a lease end fee of $350. so all in all by buying my leased car i saved a total of $2,460 (overmileage, lease end fee, negotiated discount, and difference in finance fees ). I hung up the phone then found out from a forum that amazon was selling wii's at retail price $249. I got on there bought one and not minutes later the deal was gone. Today has been a good day for me and my toys.

    <lj:music>A Story of All Times - Oratory</lj:music>

Comment and I'll give you a letter; then you have to list 10 things you love that begin with that letter. After, post this in your journal, and give out some letters of your own. Let me know if you want a letter.

Mine was "R"

1. Racing - Racing rocks my world, truly a display of the best that man can achieve, first on the engineering front and second on the focus necessary to achieve on the track

2. Relatives - My family is very important to me and i owe them a lot

3. Rotaries - I drive a car with a rotary and i love the turbine smoothness of my engine compared with piston counterparts.

4. Roads - (if you can't tell i really like driving) Roads allow me to take part in my favorite activity.

5. Reverie - I love fantasizing about an idealized future for me and those around me. I'm very optimistic.

6. Roasting - Nothing quite like roasted chicken/beef/lamb/etc. Mmm pot roast

7. Redemption(Revenge) - Some of my favorite stories and movies involve the main characer righting the wrongs of the past, sometimes in a good way sometimes in an evil way (i guess that would be revenge), but its no surprise that my favorite superhero is batman and my favorite movies include the Count of Monte Cristo and Shawshank Redemption

8. Rockets - Space has intrigued and fascinated me from a very young age and since i could read i've been getting my hands on astronomy books and toy rockets and reading up and following the space program. One of my very first (unfortunate) memories of watching tv was the Challenger launch in 85. Its still true today, im currently reading "The Right Stuff" which chronicles the experimental flight and rocketry programs in th US along with the early space program.

9. Reading - I'm finding more and more time to read lately and im really appreciating it, i'm branching out into different genres and almost always have a book in hand.

10. Rock - I have a musical taste that can be described as unique and different. I enjoy a lot of progressive rock and metal and have an extensive library. In the past few years (in college and beyond) i've grown my library of music considerably and am proud to own some relatively obscure CDs.
<lj:music>Mad World...duh</lj:music>

So yesterday i was watching a commercial for a game on the xbox 360, gears of war. The action on screen is muted and the protagonist picks up a broken sculpture head in a war torn city and looks at it, and then the road explodes behind him bearing down on him and he runs into a building for cover, he catches his breath and this giant spider is there and he starts filling it with lead and the screen goes black. The song in the background is Mad World as covered by Gary Jules (originally a tears for fears song). This song is really evocative (so much so im writing about it and finally a commercial that does something more than visually stimulate) but its also familiar, and i realized where i heard it before, on buffy the vampire slayer, it was the requiem song for Tara. Tis a good song, give it a listen, i actually nabbed the single since i liked it so much.

Bond has expensive tastes, a wide knowledge of many subjects, and his usually armed with a clever gadget and an appropriate one-liner.

James Bond, Agent 007

88%

Captain Jack Sparrow

71%

Lara Croft

71%

The Amazing Spider-Man

67%

Maximus

58%

Batman, the Dark Knight

58%

William Wallace

58%

El Zorro

50%

Indiana Jones

50%

The Terminator

29%

Neo, the "One"

29%

</td>

Which Action Hero Would You Be? v. 2.0
created with QuizFarm.com

i had a 9:45 flight to pittsburgh last night...it got delayed an hour...in reality we started boarding the plane at 10:55. I talk to the stewardess and find out that there apparently is a long line to take off 25-30 minutes. We take off at 12:19 (notice not 25-30minutes later)....we land in pittsburgh at 1:02am.

If you've been to pittsburgh you know there is an automatic tram to the baggage/parking area that everyone has to take. Everyone gets off the plane and some dick decides to run for the tram. He gets on the doors close before anyone else gets on so we have to wait for the tram to get back...its now 1:14am. Wait a few minutes for my bags and at 1:22am my bag rolls down the carousel...yay.

I hop in a cab heading downtown and arrive at the hotel at 1:56am after having a deeply strange yet hilarious conversation with a grad student cabbie who was higher than a kite (we got passed by 10-12 cabs because he kept 'freaking out' as he said about the left lane).

I get into my room by 2:07 am and unpack...my suit was packed so i need to steam it now so it doesnt wrinkle. 2:24...im done ironing my suit and hanging up my shirts. I brush my teeth...take out my lenses and its now 2:35am. Time for sleep.

Alarm goes off at 7:40am, i go into the bathroom groggy as hell, splash my face and put my lenses in...at this point i start screaming in pain because i use clear care solution and it hasnt been 6 hours and therefore the solution hasnt fully neutralized...nothing like hydrogen peroxide in the morning to wake you up. I shower...and enjoy my headache thats come on from the searing pain get dressed and meet up with my colleague. We arrive at the firm at about 8:30 and get to work and its felt like an eternity up to this point.

F*ck me!
